Who would have thought contemporary dance and folk music could be performed together?
The artistic director of DanceWorks Chicago Julia Nakagawa and Deborah Lader of the folk trio Sons of the Never Wrong came up with an exquisite blend of dance performance in “My Weakness”.
Both arts organizations will perform a 25-minute piece choreographed by Gina Patterson, at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. It will be a culminating show in which every dance group will also perform individually. Nakagawa discovered the Sons of the Never Wrong after she attended a special event. “I thought they were fantastic as artists and as people — and fun, smart and generous. We knew we wanted to work with them at some point.” She said.
The whole collaboration took 2 years before it began to materialize. Nakagawa had to call on Texas based choreographer Patterson. “I thought that her musical taste and her personality and her movement would be a nice compliment with the Sons. So I set them up on a blind date via technology. It was a match.”
For Nakagawa, the outcome was “a journey”. Starting from the music, movements, to the environment produced by well devised lighting; the entire routine will be a whole new different kind of dance performance; whether you’re an artist performing or just a spectator in the North Shore Center. Lader admitted that it is an unusual collaboration, however DanceWorks is open to new ideas, and expecting to have a successful contemporary dance collaboration. Lader mentioned that “My Witness” was produced five years ago. It reflects the old feel to some Sons’ songs.
Other songs include “Girl Shanty”, a song about the being a girl; and “Crazy Dog” a song which has varying quirky tunes.
The Sons of the Never Wrong will commence its show with one of their several known performances. “We’re going to do our usual thing. It’s crazy and funny and we go with the flow of whatever the evening is going to bring us. Our music is pretty eclectic. Our songs range from being gritty and rock-and-roll-ey to really beautiful, folky with beautiful harmonies. We’re striving to entertain people but also make them feel something.” Lader said.

dance-tech.tv  presents  its own Augmented Reality App for portable mobile devices  Apple and Android!  

dancetechtvARapp is the free Augmented Reality app of dance-tech.tv and it allows the user to discover video layers or 3D aninated characters on printed material and spaces. It also allows the user to create their own AR geolocated content.

It combines an image recognition engine and geolocation.

The dance-tech.tv AR app is designed to be used mostly in the contexts of  arts festivals  and older events to augment printed programs and posters with video layers of the artists involved in the festivals and with video content created in the festivals by the dance-tech.tv team.  It may also be used for some urban games and performances with the geolocation feature.

The dance-tech.tv AR app makes image and location a site for multimedia performance experimentation.
